I Love Manhattan Beach!
For nearly 30 years I have committed myself to public service in Manhattan Beach. With each year, my dedication to ensuring a bright future for our community has grown stronger. Today, I am committed to working diligently on behalf of our residents to preserve our quality of life and to address the issues that we as a city are facing.
Education and Career
I’ve been married to Bill Fournell, a Manhattan Beach native, for 31 years. Together we have raised our four children, Lauren, Nicole, Renee and Robert, who have all attended Manhattan Beach public schools. Our oldest daughters have graduated college and are starting their careers; Renee is a student at UC Berkeley and Robert is a Junior at Mira Costa High School. Bill has served on the School Board for the past 13 years, and will be ending his service this year.
I was born and raised in Alhambra, California, by loving parents, along with my two sisters and a large extended family. My parents emigrated from Costa Rica and created a great life for us in the United States.
For nearly 30 years I have committed myself to public service in Manhattan Beach. I believe we create community when we make space in our heart and our lives to serve.
For the past 20 years, I’ve been an active committee and board member of Sandpipers and the PTA Executive Boards of Grand View, Manhattan Beach Middle School and Mira Costa High School and the MBUSD District Advisory Council.
Since 2012, I’ve been the Lead Advisor to Sandpiper Juniors, where I’ve guided more than 800 South Bay high school girls in their local community service and philanthropic efforts. Together we volunteer more than 4,000 hours A YEAR.
I’m an active member of the Manhattan Beach City Sister Association, where I served as Ambassador of Manhattan Beach, coordinated and led mutual visits with leaders and dozens of students in Manhattan Beach and our sister city, Santa Rosalia, Baja California. I currently serve as the board treasurer for South Bay Cares, a local non-profit organization we founded four years ago to increase community involvement.
Working with the Manhattan Beach Youth Council (MBYC) I have helped to coordinate monthly professional development workshops for our high school students. I served as both a Girl and Cub Scout Leader as well as a manager/treasurer for the LA Galaxy Junior Team for three years.
I graduated from California State University, Los Angeles with a Business Administration degree specializing in management information systems and mathematics. I began my career in information technology with the County of Los Angeles. I then worked for 17 years as a consultant with what began as Arthur Young and later became Ernst & Young and then Capgemini, LLC. As a consultant, I helped clients develop and implement budget, process improvement and customer service systems to save money and deliver better customer service more efficiently.
I currently work with The Distinguished Speaker Series, based here in Manhattan Beach, improving and ensuring their efficiency and effectiveness.
